Hello there~

My name is Emily and I moved from California, USA to South Korea in 2019. Since graduating with a Master’s degree in Child and Family Studies at Yonsei University, I have gained experience both working at a Korean company and teaching English.

In creating a teaching philosophy, I learned that it is important to teach holistically. In today’s globalized society, English alone is no longer enough. Instead, children need a chance to develop cultural understanding and the ability to adapt to one’s situation. Therefore, my teaching philosophy centers around the term, “holistic,” meaning that during the lesson children should be developing their language skills along with their personal development to be the most successful.

Some Fun Facts About Me:
1. I love rock climbing, rafting, hiking, and camping. In 2019, I spent the summer backpacking across northern Spain on El Camino De Santiago. Also, before I went to college, I spent a summer working at an adventure camp where we took kids white water rafting and canyoneering.
2. I hope to someday do social work with children in Korea. I have such a strong love for children and believe they are our future. So, caring for the ones who need it the most is my life’s goal.

저는 2019년에 미국 캘리포니아에서 한국으로 이주한 에밀리라고 합니다. 연세대학교에서 아동가족학 석사 학위를 취득한 후, 한국 회사에서 일하며 영어를 가르치는 경험을 쌓았습니다.

교육 철학을 만들면서 전인적으로 가르치는 것이 중요하다는 것을 배웠습니다. 오늘날의 글로벌 사회에서는 더 이상 영어만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 그 대신 아이들이 문화적 이해와 상황에 적응할 수 있는 능력을 키울 수 있는 기회가 필요합니다. 따라서 제 교육 철학은 '전인적'이라는 용어에 초점을 맞추고 있는데, 이는 아이들이 수업을 받는 동안 언어 능력과 함께 인성 발달도 함께 이루어져야 가장 성공적인 결과를 얻을 수 있다는 것을 의미합니다.

나에 대한 몇 가지 재미있는 사실:
1. 저는 암벽 등반, 래프팅, 하이킹, 캠핑을 좋아합니다. 2019년에는 여름에 스페인 북부의 엘 카미노 데 산티아고에서 배낭여행을 했어요. 또한 대학에 진학하기 전에는 여름방학 동안 아이들에게 급류 래프팅과 캐녀닝을 가르치는 모험 캠프에서 일했습니다.
2. 언젠가 한국에서 아이들과 함께하는 사회사업을 하고 싶어요. 저는 아이들을 정말 사랑하고 아이들이 우리의 미래라고 믿습니다. 그래서 가장 도움이 필요한 아이들을 돌보는 것이 제 인생의 목표입니다.
